In Ishøj Centrum, the sculpture ‘Klyden’ stands proudly on Klydens Plads, marking the completion of a six-year renewal project in the area surrounding Ishøj Station. Created by ceramic artist Julie Høm, the sculpture depicts the Eurasian oystercatcher, a striking wading bird known for its long legs and distinctive black and white feathers.

Rising 3.5 meters above the ground, the sculpture is visible from the nearby station and acts as a welcoming landmark for residents and visitors alike. The bird was chosen as a symbol to reflect the unique character of the area, connecting nature and community. Though the number of breeding oystercatchers in the nearby Strandparken has dwindled, the sculpture serves as a hopeful emblem to attract attention to the bird and its environment.

The placement of ‘Klyden’ is part of a larger vision called the ‘Art Axis,’ which aims to link Ishøj’s town center with the Arken Museum of Modern Art and the coastal park, Strandparken. This axis brings together urban life, art, and nature, creating a seamless flow between the town and its surroundings. Funded by a local renewal project supported by the Ministry of Social Affairs, ‘Klyden’ symbolizes both the revitalization of Ishøj Centrum and a celebration of its natural heritage.
