First Scottish statue talking

Talking Statue John Macleod

For the first time, a statue begins to speak in Scotland! It is a life-size bronze statue of John J.R. Macleod who helped discover insulin in 1922. The talking statue will be unveiled in Aberdeen’s Duthie Park this autumn to mark the 100th anniversary of Professor Macleod’s Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology. Visitors to the Macleod Memorial can scan a QR code, which causes the app to ‘ring’ their mobile and play a short recording of an actor’s voice speaking as the statue. The screenwriter is Kimberlie Hamilton. The actor is Scottish stage, TV, and film actor David Rintoul (Game of Thrones, The Crown, Dr Finlay), a native of Aberdeen.
