Il Babuino, also known as “Il Babbuino” or “The Baboon,” is one of Rome’s six famous “talking statues,” also known as the “Congregation of Wits”.
The statue is located in front of the Canova Tadolini Museum in via del Babuino. The fountain where Il Babuino stands was built around 1576 and consists of a Roman-era basin in gray granite where water is poured into from a simple tube .
Il Babuino is an ancient depiction of a reclining Silenus, a character in Roman mythology who is half man, half goat.
