Mickey Mantle, an Oklahoma native and one of baseball’s greatest players, is honored with multiple monuments in Oklahoma. A prominent statue of Mickey Mantle is installed outside Oklahoma City’s Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. This bronze statue stands nearly 8 feet tall and is a popular draw for visitors to the area (Wikipedia; The Oklahoman).
In Commerce, Oklahoma, Route 66 is named Mickey Mantle Boulevard as a tribute to the baseball legend. Commerce is also home to a statue of Mantle, which was dedicated in 2010. This cast bronze statue stands next to the alignment of Route 66 and is located near the Commerce high school, bringing many tourists to the area to pay homage to “The Mick” (Travel Oklahoma; Route 66 Times).
Mantle is remembered for his outstanding career as a Hall of Fame baseball player with the New York Yankees through the 1950s and ’60s. He was born and raised in Oklahoma and played high school baseball at Commerce High School, earning him nicknames such as the “Commerce Comet” (Roadside America; The Clio).
