Women’s Rights Pioneers Monument

THE WOMENS'S RIGHT PIONEERS MONUMENT
IS NOW A TALKING STATUE

The Women's Right Pioneers Monument

The Women’s Rights Pioneers Monument in Central Park is a historically signicant sculpture that honors three key gures in the American women’s rights movement: Sojourner Truth, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony.

This monument is important because it brings together these pioneering women, each of whom made unique and lasting contributions to the fight for gender equality and civil rights in the United States.

Sojourner Truth

Sojourner Truth (1797-1883), born enslaved in 1797 and freed in 1827, was an African American abolitionist and women’s rights activist.

Her iconic 1851 “Ain’t I a Woman?” speech powerfully advocated for gender and racial equality. She significantly influenced the early women’s suffrage movement.

Elizabeth Cady Stanton

Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815–1902) was a leading suffragist who co-organized the 1848 Seneca Falls Convention and co-founded the National Woman Suffrage Association.

She advocated for women’s voting and legal rights, helping secure the 19th Amendment in 1920.

Susan B. Anthony

Susan B. Anthony (1820–1906) was a leading American suffragist who co-founded the National Woman Suffrage Association.

She tirelessly campaigned for women’s voting rights through speeches and rallies. Her work helped pave the way for the 19th Amendment in 1920.

The collaboration

Every time we create Talking Statues, we discuss the collaboration and how it should proceed. We are always responsible for the technology and programming, and often handle the script and actors as well. In these cases, the client approves every step of the process.

Sometimes, however, the client has specic suggestions for the writer and actors as in the case of Women’s Rights Pioneers Monument.

Voices behind the women's
right pioneers monument

For the Women’s Rights Pioneers Monument, we were contacted by Brenda Berkman from Monumental Women, who already had a scriptwriter and actors lined up. The cast included notable names like Jane Alexander, Viola Davis, America Ferrera, Rita Moreno, Zoe Saldana, and Meryl Streep, with the script written by Joanne Parrent.

Beyond the app itself, we also produced a short film for Monumental Women about the sculpture and the three women it represents.
